Doris Lessing won Nobel Prize in Literature 2007
October 11, 2007 on 11:27 am | In 文坛书讯 | 1 CommentThe Royal Swedish Academy described Doris Lessing as “that epicist of the female experience, who with scepticism, fire and visionary power has subjected a divided civilisation to scrutiny”.
87 year-old Doris Lessing was born in Iran and is a British writer now. She wrote numerous works divided into three areas: the communist theme, the psychological theme, and Sufi theme. Later she switched to science fiction.
American literary critic Harold Bloom called the academy’s decision “pure political correctness. Although Ms. Lessing at the beginning of her writing career had a few admirable qualities, I find her work for the past 15 years quite unreadable … fourth-rate science fiction.”
